The Lagos State Police Command has issued a warning to state citizens not to protest since it is now illegal as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday nationwide protest ban.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, said this while addressing newsmen in the state on Sunday evening.

According to him, any gathering in the state is unlawful and illegal since the president has addressed protesters.

He further noted that it is now the responsibility of the protesters to give the president time to meet their demands.

He said, “The protest has been called off because of the president’s speech. They believe that the President has spoken, and they are looking forward to him meeting their demands. In view of that, there should be no more gathering here or anywhere, any of such is considered illegal and unlawful. Since it has been called off, we will apply the full weight of the law.”

News About Nigeria reported that the protesters yesterday rejected the president’s speech because it did not in any way address any of their concerns.

They had also insisted that they would not back down but would continue their protest against hunger and bad governance until the right thing was done.

Recall that the nationwide protest began on August 1 in all the states in the nation except South eastern states.

Although the protests have been peaceful in some states, others like Kano, Abuja, Yobe, Jigawa, and Borno recorded cases of violence which led to the imposition of curfew to stop the further spread of violence perpetrated by hoodlums.
