President Bola Tinubu presided over the swearing-in ceremony of eight newly-appointed permanent secretaries for the federal civil service on Wednesday.

News About Nigeria reports that the ceremony took place at the Aso Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, preceding the regular Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

They were appointed to fill existing and impending vacancies in some states and geo-political zones in the top administrative cadre of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Towards this, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation had embarked on what it termed a diligent selection process comprising a written examination, an ICT proficiency test, and an interactive session with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

At the end of this exercise, eight directors in the Federal Civil Service who scaled the hurdles were appointed as permanent secretaries.

They are Emanso Okop Umobong (Akwa Ibom), Emeka Vitalis Obi (Anambra), Fatima Sugra Tabi’a Mohammed (Bauchi), Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma (Jigawa), Olubunmi Olusanya (Ondo), Maryam Ismaila Keshinro (Zamfara), Chinyere Ijeama Akujobi, representing the South-East Zone, and Christopher Osaruwanwen Isokpunwu, representing the South-South.

The exercise, according to the preamble provided by the Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, was to “fill existing and impending vacancies of some states and geo-political zones in the top administrative cadre of the Civil Service of the Federation.”

Ngelale said the President anticipated that the new Federal Permanent Secretaries would exercise absolute dedication, diligence, and fidelity to the nation in the discharge of their functions and ensure optimum service delivery to the Nigerian people.

Meanwhile, the cabinet members have congratulated President Tinubu on his re-election as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SVF), Sen. George Akume, said the West African regional leaders have seen in the President a committed leader working for the growth and development of the country and Africa as a whole and decided to re-elect him.

He said, “Africa has seen a committed leader and once again saw the need to re-appoint the president as their leader.

“Cabinet members congratulate you, Mr. President, and we believe that you will continue to do your best. You have our support and our loyalty is one hundred percent.”
