The Delta Police Command said its operatives have arrested a three-man kidnapping gang terrorising the Ughelli axis of the state.

News About Nigeria reports that the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Delta, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in the late hours of Monday.

He identified the suspects as Ismaila Umaru, 28; Chede Mohammed, 18; and Mohammed Sani, 26.

According to Edafe, the suspects abducted a victim on May 17 and later killed him.

Edafe said an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the suspects.

“The command has arrested a gang of kidnappers who have been responsible for kidnapping around the Ughelli axis.

“They kidnapped a man in Ughellli on 17th May 2024 and later killed him.

“The suspects are Ismaila Umaru, aged 28 years, Chede Mohammed, aged 18 years, both of Nasarawa State; and Mohammed Sani, aged 26 years, from Abuja.

“One AK-49 rifle was recovered from them,” Edafe said.

In January, gunmen abducted three mobile police officers who were responding to a distress call, at the Ohoro community in the Ughelli north LGA of the state.

On July 4, gunmen murdered Anslem Oyibo, a community leader in Obodougwa-Ogume, Ndokwa West LGA of the Delta state.

In 2023, the Delta State Police Command arrested three young men suspected to have been behind the kidnapping of a family of four in the Okpe council area of the state, along with the mother of the two children killed in the process.

The suspects were responsible for the kidnappings around the council and have been at large since the abduction of the family of four.
