The Bauchi State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects in connection with separate crimes against humanity.

News About Nigeria understands that on July 7, 2024, the command said it received a report of child abuse, leading to the arrest of Mamuda Abubakar, a 30-year-old man who chained his six-year-old son in their residence.

The command said the child was rescued and is currently under investigation.

In a separate incident, a report was received from the Nabardo Police Outstation regarding a break-in at a residence, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old woman, Safiya Yunusa.

Following a collaborative effort with local vigilante groups and Fulani leaders, one suspect, Adamu Alhassan, a 30-year-old, was arrested and the weapon used in the crime was recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has ordered a discreet investigation and prosecution upon completion.

The police urged the public to support them with useful information to help identify the remaining culprits.

The Bauchi State Police Command added that it remains committed to protecting all citizens, especially vulnerable children, and urges the public to report any incidents of abuse or maltreatment to the nearest police station.

On July 5, the police command in the state arrested a 50-year-old father for allegedly torturing his five-year-old son to an unconscious state in the Gwalangan Mayaka area of the state.

NAN reports that Ahmed Wakil, spokesperson of the command, said the incident was reported to the police by a good Samaritan who found the boy lying unconscious and shackled.

He added that a team of detectives led by Mubarak Baba, the divisional police officer (DPO) of the Dutsen Tanshi police division, rescued the boy.
