On Friday, armed robbers reportedly attacked an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who was simply identified as Abu, on his way from a bank where he went to withdraw money.

News About Nigeria gathered that Abu was returning from the bank and heading towards his house in the Zango area of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, when the armed robbers attacked him.

The officer was said to have been dispossessed of a yet-to-be-ascertained sum of money after shots were fired at him.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command disclosed that Abu, who was riding on a motorcycle from the bank up to Phase I Lokongoma in front of Lokongoma market, was attacked by the criminals, who rode in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry car.

The state police public relations officer, William Aya, further revealed that the sum of N139,000 was recovered from the scene while the officer was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

He said, “At exactly 1.30 pm, officers received a distress call and rushed to the scene at Lokongoma, Phase I in Lokoja, and met Abu, a road safety officer, in a pool of his own blood after being shot in both legs and shoulder. He was coming from the bank when a Toyota Camry Ash colour car accosted him and blocked him in front of Lokongoma Market, Phase 1 in Lokoja, and was dispossessed of an unspecified sum of money.”

The Police PRO also disclosed that the state commissioner of police, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to the scene to ensure the safety of lives and property and the capture of the armed robbers to bring them to justice.
