Two persons, yet to be identified, have died as a result of an attack by unknown gunmen in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, News About Nigeria reports.

The attack was confirmed by the Taraba State Police Command on Friday.

The spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Gambo Kwache, who confirmed the incident, stated that the command has put in place security measures to prevent future attacks.

The incident happened at Chinkai Village, where marauders struck on Wednesday, killing two people and leaving the residents in fear and panic.

The attack is coming barely two days after an 18-year-old POS operator was stabbed to death by a thief in the same Wukari LGA, the hometown of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.

Speaking on the incident, the Chairman of the LGA, Ismaila Dauda, stated that the victims had been shot dead by bandits who entered the town and started shooting sporadically.

He noted that upon the invasion, soldiers had been mobilised to the village but sadly didn’t get there on time, as the bandits had fled before they could get there.

He condemned the killings, stating that it is a sad thing that the young men are being targeted.

“Two people were killed in Chinkai town on June 19, 2024, by bandits who entered the town and started shooting sporadically.

“It is unfortunate that our young men are being targeted. However, soldiers were mobilised to Chinkai, but before they got there, the bandits had left the town,” he stated.

The village head of Chinkai, Ezekiel Musa, also spoke, calling on the state governor to ensure the deployment of more security operatives to their community.
