The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that arrangements to host its 2024 policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions have been concluded, News About Nigeria reports.

The board disclosed this in its weekly news bulletin, stating that the meeting will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, with other critical stakeholders in the education sector in attendance.

JAMB announced July 22, 2024, as the official date for the 2024 JAMB Policy Meeting.

It also disclosed that heads of regulatory agencies like NUC, NBTE, and NCCE, among others, will be in attendance.

The Board further stated that the policy meeting on admissions will set the tone for any particular year’s admission exercise, formulate admission guidelines, and also present application statistics and candidates’ performance evaluations.

It was noted that the meeting will also set the acceptable minimum admissions standards for all tertiary institutions across Nigeria for the given year.

“These critical stakeholders include heads of regulatory agencies, such as the National University Commission, NUC, National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, National Council for Colleges of Education, NCCE, heads of tertiary institutions in the country, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.”

JAMB explained that “the policy meeting on admissions sets the tone for any particular year’s admission exercise and the formulation of admission guidelines.

“It also presents application statistics, candidates’ performance evaluations, as well as setting the acceptable minimum admissions standards for all tertiary institutions across Nigeria for the given year,” the Board stated.

In the previous year, the meeting established minimum cut-off marks of 130 and above for admission into universities, 120 for polytechnics, and 100 for colleges of education.
