The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police Force in Alagbon, Lagos State, recently questioned Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa, popularly known as Mohbad, following a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi.

News About Nigeria reports that the monarch accused Aloba of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation.

Aloba’s legal team, led by Monisola Odumosu, revealed that the allegations stemmed from a recent interview Aloba granted.

During the interview, Aloba reportedly sought justice for his late son and made statements perceived as defamatory towards the monarch.

However, Aloba clarified that he never intended to bully Oba Elegushi and was focused solely on seeking justice for Mohbad.

Odumosu confirmed that Aloba was neither arrested nor detained.

“Mr. Aloba was invited by the police and accompanied to the station by representatives of his legal team, Teri Wellington, and myself. Oba Saheed Elegushi’s petition alleged that during an interview with a London-based blogger, Mr. Aloba criminally defamed him,” Odumosu explained.

The controversial statements in question included Aloba’s claim that his son was bullied and killed on Oba Elegushi’s orders, with Sam Larry allegedly carrying out the act.

In response, Oba Elegushi demanded a retraction of the statements made on social media.

“Mr. Aloba was never arrested or detained and was granted bail without stress. It is crucial to recognise that Mr. Aloba is still grieving the loss of his son and may have made unreasonable statements in his grief. We need to understand the emotional circumstances behind his utterances,” Odumosu added.

Mohbad, who died at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, left behind a cloud of controversy surrounding the circumstances of his death.

His body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

However, a pathologist testified before the Coroner’s Court on May 15, 2024, that the autopsy could not determine the cause of death due to the body’s decomposition.
