Details have emerged from the meeting between the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, and top security chiefs.
News About Nigeria reports that the details have shed light on Saturday’s discussions surrounding Sanusi’s reinstatement.
The meeting, which took place at the Gidan Rumfa Palace, was attended by the Police Commissioner, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano, Army Brigade Commander, and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) commander.
According to a source present at the meeting, Governor Yusuf allowed the security chiefs to have a private audience with Sanusi, during which they informed him of the decision to enforce the court order stopping his reinstatement.
Sanusi, who spoke for over an hour, expressed his gratitude to the state government for correcting the injustice done to him in the past.
The Emir stated that he had not seen the court order and described it as a “media court order” until he saw it.
“The emir, who spoke for over an hour during the meeting, told us that what the state government had done was justice against the injustice meted out to him in the past.
“He told us that he had not seen the court order we were referring to, describing it as a media court order until he saw it,” the Daily Trust quoted a source.
This meeting followed the repeal of the Kano Emirates Council law by the Kano House of Assembly. The repealed law was used by ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to dethrone Sanusi.
Governor Yusuf had assented to the law and ordered the affected Emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.
While four Emirs complied, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, returned to Kano and moved into the palace at Nassarawa with heavy military protection.
This development led Governor Yusuf to order his arrest, but the police stated they would comply with the court order reinstating Sanusi.
In a separate interview with Television Continental (TVC), Sanusi clarified that President Bola Tinubu did not interfere in his reinstatement, contrary to speculations.
He commended Tinubu for recognising the matter as a local issue and resisting pressure to interfere, allowing the state government to correct the injustice done to the people, culture, and tradition of Kano.
Sanusi expressed gratitude to the president for his principled stance.
He said, “I would also like to express my thanks to his excellency Alhaji Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, without whose principled stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of the state, this would not have been possible.”
He acknowledged Tinubu’s respect for the constitution and separation of powers, recognizing the matter as a local issue for the state government to resolve.
