Stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), under the umbrella of The Forum of Stakeholders, have called on the embattled National Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Ganduje, to resign from his position to avoid further damage to the party.
News About Nigeria reports that the call was made by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central Chairman of the forum.
He said this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Jos.
Zazzaga expressed concern that the ongoing controversy surrounding Ganduje’s leadership is spelling doom for the party.
He questioned the decision of party stakeholders from the North-West, who recently passed a vote of confidence in Ganduje, stating that such decisions would only lead to confusion and division within the party.
The North-Central Chairman pointed out that several votes of no confidence have been passed on Ganduje, including from his Kano Ward, and that his insistence on remaining in office would only harm the party.
“Ganduje already has many issues surrounding him, and the best thing for him is to quit to avoid causing further harm or legal liability for the party,” Zazzaga said.
Zazzaga also stressed that the position of national chairman should naturally go to the north-central region, citing party arrangements and the need for fairness and equity.
“In the spirit of fairness and equity, the chairmanship position should be occupied by someone from the north-central region. We are also part of the ruling party and have played a key role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu,” he maintained.
This call for resignation comes amidst recent protests against Ganduje’s leadership. However, the Ganduje camp has dismissed these calls, alleging that they are sponsored by the New Nigeria People’s Party-led government in Kano State.
Ganduje’s Special Assistant on Civil Societies and Support Groups, Okpokwu Ogenyi, recently described the agitators protesting for Ganduje’s removal as Kwankwasiyya members allegedly recruited by the Kano State Government to put pressure on the party.
