The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has reassured Nigerians that the current leadership crisis rocking the party will soon be resolved.
News About Nigeria reports that Atiku gave this assurance on Friday in Abuja at the Conference and Awards Night organised by the Victory Advocates of Nigeria (VAN) with the theme “Revitalising PDP Giants Towards Party Victory 2024.”
Represented by his senior aide, Hon. Fabiyi Oladimeji, Atiku urged Nigerians not to worry about the current state of the PDP, as everything affecting the party will be resolved very soon.
He expressed his commitment and support for the betterment of the party.
He said, “We will continue to support and participate in our party affairs. We shouldn’t blame anybody for our failure if we do not participate. I’m with you and will continue to support you. I appreciate what you are doing, and by the grace of God, you’re going to get there.”
Meanwhile, the national women leader of the PDP, Hon. Amina Darasimi Brahim, said that although the party has made mistakes, there is a need for genuine reconciliation in order for the party to be where it truly belongs.
She said, “We have made our mistakes. It is now time for us to come together to make genuine reconciliation and build this party.”
Regarding the recent defections from the party in Imo and Abia states, Brahim said, “As a political party, we are diverse. There’s a lot going on at the party right now. Reconciliation committees have been set up. We are going to reach out to all the people, sit down as a family, and discuss this issue, and I know that at the end of the day, the PDP will come out stronger.”
VAN national president, Prince Seyi Ajibola, called on PDP leaders to take responsibility and provide direction to party members.
“If the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) collapses, God forbid, we will hold you (leaders) responsible. We have compounded issues in the PDP, and if care is not taken, it can make or mar our chances, irrespective of the candidates put forward during elections. We must manage our internal crisis beyond party politics and shelve selfish interests.
“Operation Bring Back PDP’ is a collective assignment. No single individual can claim a monopoly of power or structure in winning or attaining victory,” Ajibola said.
