On Wednesday, David Umahi, the Minister of Works, accused the flagbearer of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, of inciting people from the southeast against the federal government.
During an event organised by the Federal Ministry of Works to compensate property owners affected by the demolition for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, Umahi noted that Obi aimed to mislead people.
The minister said this in response to backlash on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project by the former Anambra state governor.
News About Nigeria reported that Obi had criticised the President Bola Tinubu-led administration over the project on the grounds that the demolitions in these hard times were insensitive and uncalled for as they would strip many of their source of livelihood.
The LP chieftain also tasked the FG with focusing on other pressing national issues like; insecurity, poverty alleviation, healthcare, and education instead of such a project.
In response to Obi, the minister defended the FG, noting that the project would outlive the Tinubu-led administration.
Umahi further accused Obi of trying hard to ensure that he stirs hatred for the current government among the Igbo.
He further noted that, as opposed to Obi’s claim, the FG did not act inhumanely towards the operators of the Landmark Beach and other properties demolished, as they would be properly compensated.
He, therefore, tasked the general public to ignore the claims by Obi and others opposing the project, as it is a ploy to incite the people against the federal government.
