The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has taken action following the emergence of a viral video where a lecturer, identified as Mfonobong Udoudom, harassed a female student, News About Nigeria reports.

The lecturer, seen wearing only a pair of boxers in the video, is reported to be affiliated with the General Studies division of the university.

While the exact date of the incident remains unverified, the university administration has acknowledged the incident and confirmed the suspension of the implicated lecturer.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Chief Okwun Omeaku, the university clarified that Udoudom is not a professor but rather a member of the academic staff.

His suspension, declared indefinite, has been implemented immediately pending a thorough investigation by a disciplinary panel appointed by the university.

The statement said that the institution is against sexual misconduct involving both staff and students, adding that it adheres to a comprehensive Sexual Harassment Policy.

The university assured that it would undertake a rigorous investigation into the matter, and if the allegations are confirmed, appropriate sanctions will be meted out.

“As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the university management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel.”

The video footage, which has circulated widely on social media platforms, prompted a swift response from the university community.

In the video, voices affiliated with a task force express intent to take action while urging immediate interrogation to prevent interference once the lecturer is removed from the scene.
