Rotimi Sankore: Veteran Journalist, Development Expert Passes Away

Renowned journalist and development data expert, Rotimi Sankore, has passed away, as confirmed by Kadaria Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of RadioNow 95.3FM, in a Facebook post on Saturday.

Ahmed paid tribute to Sankore, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest journalists and an exemplary man who courageously addressed the nation’s challenges.

She pointed out his passion for Nigeria, honesty about its problems, and dedication to finding solutions.

In her post, Ahmed expressed deep sorrow over Sankore’s demise, stressing his expertise as a data journalist and his ability to analyse data comprehensively, project trajectories, and offer insights into various events.

“Over the years, Rotimi spent time and energy trying to make sure those in government, policymakers and ordinary Nigerians understand what the numbers show, how they came about, what they mean and how they can help us understand what needs to be done.

“His work was insightful and significant, and it is his legacy. His death is a big loss. We will miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his daughter and his family,” Ahmed said.

As the Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Africa Centre for Development Journalism, he provided communication support to organisations striving for social, political, and economic change in Africa.

Furthermore, Sankore served as the Editorial Board Chair of the Nigeria Info Radio Group, part of the AIM Media Group, where he oversaw stations in major cities across Nigeria, including Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Onitsha.

Sankore’s passing represents a significant loss to the journalism community and beyond.
