News reaching News About Nigeria is that a protest broke out in Asaba, Delta State capital, on Monday following the deaths of two persons during an altercation between Okada riders and the state task force on Sunday night.

The Delta State Police Command, while confirming the incident today, revealed that the two people lost their lives during the battle between the state’s task force and Okada riders.

The state police public relations officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this on his X handle on Monday.

According to Edafe, the motorcycle riders took to the streets to protest against the fatal altercation by damaging properties and assaulting individuals.

He further noted that, because their protest was not peaceful, the police had to intervene by deploying officers to control the situation.

This, according to him, is to avoid the spread of violence across the state.

The statement reads, “There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had an issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons.

“They mobilised in their numbers this morning, destroying property and beating people. Hence, our men were deployed to control the situation before it turned into something else.”

It was gathered that the clash between the okada riders and the state task force on Sunday night was chaotic and it happened at Okpanam Road axis, Midwifery, in Asaba.

A now viral video of the videos revealed a scene where policemen fired gunshots, while another video showed a group of people blocking the road with motorcycles.
