Renowned actor, folk singer, poet, and playwright, Jimi Solanke, has died at the age of 81, News About Nigeria reports.

The legendary artist reportedly passed away on Monday while being transported from his country home in Ipara Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan.

Solanke, also known as Uncle Jimi, had been in and out of the hospital since December, and his health deteriorated on Monday morning, leading to his untimely demise.

Hon Dickson Awolaja, representing Remo North State Constituency at the Ogun State Assembly, confirmed the sad news, expressing condolences for the loss of the highly gifted artist.

The late Chief Solanke was a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, known for his roles in classics such as ‘Kongi’s Harvest’, ‘Sango’, ‘Shadow Parties’, and many more.

Meanwhile, News About Nigeria reported that the late Senator Bukar Ibrahim, former governor of Yobe State, has been laid to rest in Saudi Arabia.

The funeral ceremony took place at the Grand Mosque, Masjid Al Haram, following the dawn prayers.

The event was attended by mourners who prayed for the repose of the departed soul.

Around 20 individuals, including Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, were honoured with funeral prayers after the Fajr prayers at the Grand Mosque.

The funeral prayers were conducted twice to accommodate the deceased.

Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim passed away on Sunday while receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia.

His death at the age of 73 marked the end of a distinguished political career that also included three terms in the Senate.

The current governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni expressed shock and regret over the loss, extending condolences to the family of the deceased.
