The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the opposition parties to work together with his administration in building a state they can all be proud of, News About Nigeria reports.

The governor made this call while delivering a state-wide broadcast on Friday morning following the affirmation of his electoral victory by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday.

He stated that the legal journey that has ensued since the results of the governorship elections were announced has been a torturous one, noting that he is filled with joy and grateful to God that it has come to an end.

He noted that it was a humbling experience to be trusted by the people to the extent of showering him with their votes during the elections, adding that he is grateful and will not betray the trust and confidence the people have in his administration.

“Even with that overwhelming support, we had to go through litigation to validate your choice and confirmation of your mandate to us,” he said.

He expressed his joy in the verdict of the Supreme Court affirming his victory, which, according to him, was not due to his efforts or the ingenuity of his party but of God and the people of the state.

He, therefore, urged the opposition parties in the state, to put the election behind them and join hands with him in developing the state to become the state of their dreams, adding that posterity will remember them for that.

Governor Fubara also assured the people that despite the challenges, his administration will continue to explore the path of peace as a sure foundation upon which to pull the people out of poverty.
