There is heightened expectation and anticipation in Sokoto State as the Supreme Court is set to deliver its judgement on the governorship poll today, News About Nigeria reports.

Both members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) have expressed their hope that the Supreme Court rules in their favour.

The state publicity secretary of the PDP, Hassan Sentimental, while speaking with newsmen on Thursday, stated that the PDP is optimistic about the outcome of the court’s ruling today.

He noted that the party is hoping to come out victorious and secure victory, stating that his optimism went a notch higher after the spectacular presentation of the party at the court.

“By the grace of God, we will get justice in the court,” he said.

On the other hand, the state chairman of the ruling APC, Isa Acida, in his reaction on Wednesday, declined to make any comments on the expectations his party had in the case and the judgement of the Supreme Court.

According to him, it is a case reserved for the court of law and there was nothing for him to say concerning the matter.

Recall that the PDP candidate in the March 18 governorship election, Sai’du Umar, had approached the apex court following the dismissal of his petition against Governor Ahmed Aliyu by both the Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

Umar and his party, the PDP, prayed the Apex Court to discard the concurrent judgements of the election petition tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the election of the governor.

On January 17, the Court reserved judgement for today.
