The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is working hard to stabilize the economy, News About Nigeria reports.
Wike disclosed this during a media interaction in Abuja on Monday, while appealing to Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, noting that in no distant time, the situation of the country will turn around for good.
He noted that the federal government has been trying and will keep trying to lessen the economic hardship faced by the citizens. He added that the government is giving out palliatives as one of the ways to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.
He further stated that President Bola Tinubu is interested in eradicating poverty in the country, as poverty has a direct effect on the economic growth of the country.
According to him, it is a two-sided coin, as poverty as well as individual growth have a direct consequence on the economy and vice versa.
Wike also noted that when the economy is in good shape, there will be lots of job opportunities, and businesses will be able to thrive.
“If the economy is good, it means a lot of things will function well, and that will be able to reduce poverty,” he added.
While acknowledging the contribution of poverty to the rising insecurity in FCT and the country, the minister stressed that poverty was not peculiar to FCT alone.
He added that FCTA would not be able to reduce poverty within the territory when it was tied to the national economy.
He, however, assured Nigerians that the government was on top of the matter and would not relent in seeing that the country was free from the shackles of poverty and insecurity.
