The chieftaincy titles that were conferred on the senator representing Anambra South, Ifeanyi Ubah, by three monarchs have been withdrawn, News About Nigeria reports.
The press secretary to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He noted that the monarchs have all apologised to the State Government and have also withdrawn and cancelled the chieftaincy titles that were conferred on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, adding that it was contrary to the State Traditional Rulers’ law, which outlines the rules and regulations regarding the granting and revocation of chieftaincy titles.
He further urged the traditional rulers to adhere strictly to the state’s traditional laws and ensure they avoid any improper action that could contravene the provisions of the law.
This is coming after the state government suspended the traditional ruler of the Neni Kingdom, Igwe Damian Ezeani, following his conferment of the chieftaincy title on the Senator.
Recall that the Traditional Rulers of Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Government Area, Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, and Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area, namely, Igwe F.E. Ebelendu, Igwe Onwuamaeze Damian, and Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, conferred various chieftaincy titles on Ubah during their respective Ofala and cultural festivals last December.
Reacting to the suspension of the traditional ruler by the state government, Ubah accused Governor Soludo of being jealous of his popularity in the state.
According to him, others were also awarded chieftaincy titles just like him, but the state government did not revoke theirs.
“The governor is frustrated by my acceptance and popularity; he is jittery about the next governorship election, but I leave him to his conscience,” he said.
