The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has called on employers in the state to file their annual returns of income from all sources for the year ended December 31, 2023, News About Nigeria reports.

The head of corporate communications at the FCT-IRS, Mustapha Sumaila, made this call in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, stating that it includes employers in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) of government as well as other employers of labour in the territory.

He noted that failure from the employers to file their annual returns on or before January 31, 2024, will attract sanctions and penalties, as they will not be allowed to go scot-free.

Sumaila further noted that the directive complied with Section 41 of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) 2011 (as amended), which, according to him, mandates all employers of labour in the Federal Capital Territory to file annual returns before January 31 of every year using the prescribed forms, Form G and Form H1, respectively.

He added that some penalties and repercussions have been stipulated in the Income Tax Act, which will be enforced on defaulters who fail to file their returns or file incorrect and false declarations, including those who file after the deadline, maintaining that the Service would not hesitate to enforce the laws on the defaulters.

He assured the people that everything they need to file their returns has been put in place, adding that forms are also available in the 15 offices, including the service’s headquarters, for those who may want to file manually.
