Public Service Reform Is Important - FG

The Federal Government has stated that carrying out a reform in the public service is important in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, News About Nigeria reports.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki Arabi, disclosed this in a meeting with top management of the Gombe State Bureau of Public Reforms Service on Tuesday.

He noted that having reforms at the state level cannot be overemphasised, as it aids the service in attaining a level of uniformity in terms of the transformation that the federal government hopes to achieve.

He advised that state governments emulate the reforms carried out by the federal government, which were also aimed at repositioning the public service.

“Whatever we do at the federal level, if we are not able to get it cascaded down to the states, we will not succeed,” he said.

The DG further disclosed that his purpose in engaging stakeholders at the state level was to ensure that the public servants in the state have an understanding of the tools needed to drive such reforms and are also able to use them effectively to improve the quality of public service at the state level.

He added that part of the reforms was for states to digitalise governance, adding that when the system is digitalised, it will help in reducing the cost of governance and also ensure transparency for the citizens to track the activities of the government.

He maintained that there was a need for digitalisation to be replicated at the state level.
