The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Yakubu Maikyau on Tuesday decried the increased insecurity that is currently bedeviling the nation, News About Nigeria reports.

Speaking on the insecurity witnessed in many parts of the country in the previous year (2023), the NBA President called on President Bola Tinubu to give more priority to security in 2024.

Maikyau further condemned the attacks on Christmas Eve in Plateau State, which led to the deaths of over 100 people.

He also kicked against the accidental airstrike by the Nigerian military that killed over 127 civilians in Kaduna, describing it as inexcusable and unacceptable.

The statement released by the NBA partly reads, “The NBA decried the state of insecurity across the nation and condemned the December attacks by bandits on villages in Plateau State, leaving nearly 200 Nigerians dead.”

The NBA President further noted that the attack that happened in Plateau was a result of poor intelligence, which is why the federal government of the day must give priority to the security of the lives and properties of Nigerians.

He also advised that the FG through the Armed Forces and other security agencies, must ensure that no part of Nigeria is left in the hands of ‘criminal elements’.

According to him, the government should ensure that their top priority for 2024 is the security of the lives and properties of Nigerians.

The NBA President added that, for the Federal Government to effectively beef up security in Nigeria, they must adopt a holistic approach to the issue of security that is peculiar to each region and be able to come up with suitable measures on how to deal with the security challenges in the different regions.
