The Australian Police Force has expressed shock as multiple kilos of cocaine were found washed up at beaches, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement by Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Weinstein on Wednesday, the event that took place after Christmas remains a mystery to be solved.

He disclosed that his officers came about the cocaine when mysterious packages that were believed to contain more than 120 kilogrammes (260 pounds) of cocaine washed up over the Christmas period.

He further disclosed that since the mysterious packages were found, they have discovered another set of packages, summed up in 85 packages of the same size, which were spotted at about 80 kilometres (50 miles) of the New South Wales coastline.

He maintained that a thorough search was being carried out, with the detectives and specialist police currently going through the whole place and combing beaches, coastlines, and neighbouring places for any outstanding packages.

Weinstein remained hopeful that he and his men would get to the bottom of the matter and solve the mystery of the unexpected packages presented, noting that it was both a challenge and the duty of the police to get answers.

He also assured the public that the police were equally working behind the scenes to make sure that all those responsible for the large numbers of cocaine were found and held both accountable and responsible for their actions.

He therefore urged the people not to hesitate to reach out to the police if and when they find any suspicious packages, adding that it will make their work easier and more effective.
