The District Head of Malumfashi in Katsina State, Justice Sadiq Mahuta (retd.), has urged Nigerians not to leave the full responsibility of community development in the hands of the government alone, News About Nigeria reports.
The monarch made this appeal to Nigerians while speaking with the pro-tem executive members of the newly formed Malumfashi Development Association led by its chairman, Salisu Bawa, during a courtesy visit at his palace in Malumfashi on Tuesday.
He stated that development should be a collective effort of both the government and citizens and therefore appealed to the people to chip in when necessary, as their efforts will be well appreciated.
The traditional ruler also emphasised the need for the people to offer selfless service to the community, maintaining that this would enhance economic growth and development, especially at the grassroots.
“There is a need for the people in the community to enhance the development of Malumfashi town because the government alone cannot shoulder the full responsibility,” he said.
He noted that there were Malumfashi-born people who were living in other towns, away from home, with meaningful contributions that could be made towards enhancing the socio-economic development of the people in the town.
He encouraged them not to relent in doing so.
He said, “Malumfashi is known for its highly committed industrious people who are living peacefully in other states pursuing their legitimate businesses and other things.”
He also encouraged the new executives to look into carrying out community-oriented programmes as this will help in improving the lives of the people and aid in the effective development of the community.
