The Federal Government (FG) has disclosed that it will commence with the payment of N20,000 to vulnerable groups in Cross River State, News About Nigeria reports.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, together with the Governor of Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu, disclosed this while inaugurating the process in Calabar.
Governor Otu commended the initiative of the Federal Government, stating that it will aid in reducing the rate of poverty among the vulnerable and in the country.
The governor, who noted that some individuals have started receiving payment alerts, described the development as a timely one, especially against the background of the Christmas celebration.
He, however, maintained that President Bola Tinubu would not be able to achieve his agenda of lifting 50 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030 without the collaboration of everyone in the country, and therefore reiterated the commitment of his administration to support the initiative and also collaborate with other initiatives of the federal government that will aid in reducing the level of poverty in the country.
Speaking also, Dr. Betta Edu revealed that this was just one of the many initiatives of the president to ensure that poverty in the country is reduced to the barest minimum.
She noted that some of the president’s initiatives included Farmer Money, Trader Money, Conditional Cash Transfer, in which 3.5 million Nigerians have benefited across the board, the End Hunger Programme that will be launched in January, and the Skill Acquisition Programme, among others.
She therefore urged residents of Cross River to support the governor of the state to enable him to effectively continue from where the previous administration in the state stopped.
