Ajaokuta’s Light Steel Mill To Begin Operation – FG

The Federal Government has revealed that the Light Steel Mill section of the Ajaokuta Steel Company is set to commence operations, News About Nigeria reports.
Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu, made this known after a meeting with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, on a courtesy visit to him at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
He noted that the Ministry of Steel Development will work alongside the Ministry of Works to bring the Light Steel Mill section of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant for the production of iron rods, adding that these rods will be used in constructing infrastructure across the country.
Audu further stated that President Bola Tinubu has given his approval to the project, and the ministry will therefore explore every means possible as long as it is realistic to see to it that the steel plant is brought back to life.
Audu, who went in the company of representatives of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), disclosed that plans to kick-start the Light Steel Mill Section of the Ajaokuta Complex on commercial terms are underway.
He therefore applauded the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his unwavering support and efforts to see that the Ajaokuta Steel Plant and the steel sector in the country are revived.
He maintained that the approach of the minister is innovative and brilliant.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, reiterated his commitment to the project, adding that the steel plant, when completed, will be able to provide thousands of jobs for the Nigerian youth and aid in the reduction of the teeming unemployment rate in the country.
