On Tuesday, a group of hoodlums launched a violent attack on officials of a Lagos State Government task team engaged in a road clearance exercise to open the congested Tincan Port access roads.

News About Nigeria gathered that the task team, consisting of members from the Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Ports Authority, and the Nigeria Police, faced aggression during their efforts to enhance trade facilitation and ease the flow of traffic.

The team initiated the exercise on Monday to open up the inbound section of the Tincan Port access road.

On Tuesday, while implementing a single-lane policy for truck movement, thugs disrupted the operation just five minutes after it began from Tincan’s second gate.

The attackers reportedly injured a LASTMA official and confiscated his phone. One of the assailants was apprehended and taken to the task force office at Oshodi.

In response to the incident, the road clearance team tactically withdrew from the Tincan Port Gate to prevent further chaos and potential casualties.

Ongoing efforts to clear the roads of indiscriminate parking by trucks, tankers, and checkpoints to enhance business operations and cargo evacuation have faced repeated sabotage.

A source close to the team condemned the attack, expressing disappointment that those disrupting the exercise should have collaborated to promote business efficiency.

“The act was unfortunate and I highly condemn it. Because the people who came out to disrupt this exercise are supposed to join hands with us to promote the ease of doing business. But unfortunately, they ended up attacking us. They are supposed to join hands to sanitise the road,” the source said.
