Tinubu Leaves for Dubai, To Attend UN COP28

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly departed Abuja for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to attend the COP28 Climate Summit, which is the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, News About Nigeria reports.

His departure was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, in a post he shared on the X platform.

According to Ngelale, the World Leaders’ Summit Conference will hold between December 1st and 2nd, 2023, with the theme, ‘Unite, Act, and Deliver.’

More information from the statement says that President Tinubu would be speaking on national matters, using Nigeria’s situation as a basis for his discussion, which will also include discussions on renewable energy and climate financing.

Ngelale also noted that the Conference would include discussions and deliberations on holding businesses and institutions accountable, reflecting Nigeria’s dedication to sustainable and responsible practices.

Speaking on the impacts of climate change like; desertification, flooding, erosion, drought, and the current national security risks arising, Ngelale noted that, Tinubu would be maximising the platform to advocate for increased financial and technical support for developing nations like Nigeria.

He added that Tinubu would be reminding developed countries of their public pledges to provide $100 billion annually for support to localised initiatives to address climate change-related challenges.

He further revealed that Tinubu would be taking an active part in key sideline events that would encourage the support of foreign investors and attract foreign direct investment to the country for the enhancement of wealth creation and revenue expansion in the Country.

Ngelale added that Tinubu would be accompanied by senior government officials from the country.
