The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has revealed that Nigerian culture will now feature in locally produced video games, stating that this move will reposition the game animation industry in Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

She made this announcement while speaking at the third-quarter edition of the Xbox Developer Hangout, organized by Microsoft in Lagos.

Musawa noted that the game animation industry in Nigeria holds significant employment potential for the country’s youth. She emphasized that regular consultations with Microsoft would contribute to the realization of her vision in that regard.

The minister further revealed that plans to make this a reality were already underway and would be executed in such a way that Nigerian movies, music, fashion, and culture would be integrated into every locally produced video game.

According to her, a working document has already been developed to actualize this mission but requires input from Microsoft.

She reiterated her desire to witness the transformation of the gaming space in Nigeria, emphasizing that numerous innovations were possible through gaming.

Musawa expressed optimism about the project, noting that it was achievable with extensive collaborations.

In the same vein, Olatomiwa Williams, Country Manager at Microsoft, reiterated the company’s commitment to empowering everyone with the necessary tools to thrive in the industry.

According to her, all opportunities would be leveraged to achieve President Tinubu’s agenda for economic diversification. She highlighted that Microsoft has been in existence for over 20 years and has thrived because Nigerians have contributed to the solution areas of the company.
