President Bola Tinubu has signed the 2023 Supplementary Budget of N2.17 trillion Into Law.
This is coming exactly six days after the Senate and House of Representatives approved the Supplementary Appropriation Bill the President submitted to them for consideration.
Tinubu signed the budget on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja, in the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Others present when the president signed the bill into law are; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; and the Chairman Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacheaus Adedeji.
In the bill submitted by Tinubu to the National Assembly, defence, and agriculture, amongst others, got prominence.
Also, it is expected that part of the supplementary budget will be used to finance some proposed post-subsidy removal palliative.
News About Nigeria recalls that when the supplementary budget was submitted for approval by the President, it sparked the reactions of Nigerians, especially the initial allocation of N5 billion for the purchase of a Presidential Yacht.
In response to calls from Nigerians charging Tinubu to discontinue the purchase of the Presidential Yacht, the House of Representatives scrapped the money budgeted for the yacht and added the N5 billion to the student loan scheme, which initially had N5.5 billion.
The Minister of Budget and Planning also clarified Nigerians, noting N605 billion in the budget was allocated to security inorder to strengthen the armed forces and security agencies to address current insecurity bedeviling the Nation.
