On Thursday morning, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Israel to meet with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, with the primary agenda of discussing the urgent need for humanitarian aid to be delivered to Gaza.

This visit follows President Joe Biden’s recent visit, during which he pledged significant financial support for the region.

The trip is part of a coordinated effort by world leaders to prevent the ongoing conflict with Hamas from escalating further and spilling into neighbouring regions.

News About Nigeria gathered Prime Minister Sunak, upon his arrival in Israel, expressed his solidarity with the nation in the face of terrorism.

He shared a heartfelt message on social media, stating, “I am in Israel, a nation in grief. I grieve with you and stand with you against the evil that is terrorism. Today, and always.”

During his visit, Sunak is scheduled to hold discussions with Prime Minister Netanyahu, focusing on strategies to provide much-needed humanitarian aid to Gaza, where the civilian population has been severely affected by the conflict.

The British leader will also offer his condolences to those who have lost their lives in the hostilities.

Prime Minister Sunak expressed his concern for the loss of innocent lives, saying, “Every civilian death is a tragedy. And too many lives have been lost following Hamas’s horrific act of terror.”

Earlier reports had hinted at Prime Minister Sunak’s intentions to visit Israel this week, but confirmation of his travel arrangements came only on Wednesday evening.

In tandem with Prime Minister Sunak’s visit, the British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, is scheduled to meet with leaders from Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar in the coming days.

The discussions will center on garnering support for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in Israel and Gaza.

Foreign Secretary Cleverly will also advocate for an agreement on humanitarian access to Gaza, addressing the immediate needs of the affected population.

Additionally, he will seek the release of British hostages currently held by Hamas.

The British government’s diplomatic efforts align with the international community’s aim to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and contribute to lasting peace in the region.

As world leaders unite to address these critical issues, the hope is that a peaceful resolution will soon emerge to spare the people of Gaza from further suffering and bring an end to the current conflict.
