In a grand ceremony, the Kano State Government conducted a mass wedding for 1,800 couples, including widows, divorcees, and spinsters selected from all 44 local government areas of the state.

This mass wedding initiative, sponsored by the state government, brought together a total of 3,600 men and women in matrimony.

The knot was tied in a wedding Fatihah at the palace of Kano Emir, Alhaji Aminu Bayero. The Emir of Kano was represented by Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, the Madakin Kano.

News About Nigeria gathered that the event was attended by prominent personalities, including Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, Leader of Kwankwasiyya.

Kwankwaso, on Friday, represented the grooms (Wali), while Abba Kabir Yusuf stood in for the brides at the government-sponsored mass wedding.

Governor Yusuf highlighted that the mass wedding was a testament to the state’s commitment to promoting cultural traditions, enhancing social cohesion, and providing couples with an unforgettable and cost-effective way to formalise their unions.

The celebrations will continue with wedding ceremonies and ‘Walima’ (traditional feast) scheduled at the Government House on the following day.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that the initiative not only strengthened the bonds between couples but also underscored Kano State’s dedication to supporting its citizens and celebrating the institution of marriage.

He praised the deep-rooted values and unity of the people in Kano State and the government’s commitment to preserving traditions while ensuring a prosperous future for its residents.
