Fuji music icon, King Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam1 or K1 De Ultimate, paid a heartfelt tribute to the late singer Mohbad during his coronation ceremony in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, News About Nigeria gathered.
In his tribute, delivered on Tuesday, Kwam1 recognized the abundance of musical talent in Nigeria but also expressed his sorrow over the loss of Mohbad, which occurred on September 12, 2023.
The news of Mohbad’s untimely death sent shockwaves throughout the music industry and the nation as a whole, prompting deep reflection on collective attitudes and actions.
With a heavy heart, Kwam1 offered his farewell wishes to the late singer and fervently prayed for Mohbad’s eternal rest.
He acknowledged the incredible talent of artistes such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Tiwa Savage, emphasising the potential they possess to unite the nation through their music.
“We have a whole lot of artists that can keep the country together, we have Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage. Unfortunately, something happened to us a while ago, it caught us unaware and it set us back, and made us feel bad about ourselves and our attitudes.
“Mohbad rest in peace. Mohbad, we pray to God Almighty, may your soul rest in peace,” he said.

In a related development, Nigerian singer Naira Marley, who was accused of involvement in Mohbad’s death, released a statement on his official Instagram handle on Tuesday evening, denying any direct or indirect responsibility for Mohbad’s death.
He described Mohbad as a brother and a member of their music family, emphasising that their disagreements were not uncommon in the music industry.
He said that he had remained silent to avoid interfering with the ongoing government investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and had been out of the country since August 31, 2023.
However, he expressed his willingness to cooperate with the authorities and clear his name of the allegations.
