The restoration of the national grid is ongoing and has moved to an advanced stage, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

Ndidi Mbah, the company’s GM of Public Affairs, made this announcement in the wake of the National Grid Collapse that struck the country early on Thursday. In a statement posted on the official Twitter account of TCN, Mbah explained that power had been restored in the West, North Central, South, East, and a portion of Northern states.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby notes that grid restoration nationwide is in progress and has reached advanced stages with power supply now available in the West, North Central, South, East, and a large portion of the Northern parts of the country,” the statement partly read.

According to earlier reports from News About Nigeria, a national grid failure that caused a complete nationwide blackout on Thursday occurred at around 12:35 a.m.

Mr. Ndid added that there was an early setback in the grid restoration operation, which is what caused the delay in power restoration in some areas.

He did, however, make it clear that the setback does not constitute a new collapse and that difficulties may arise during any grid restoration effort. While using the grid today, this occurred.

The recent grid breakdown was linked by the transmission company to a fire event that took place following a fire incident on Kanji/Jebba 330kV line 2.

He went on to say that the incident that caused the fire outbreak is being looked into in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Nigeria experienced a string of grid failures under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, which led to ongoing power disruptions.
