The Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State have kicked against the results of the local government council election conducted on Saturday in the State describing it as a charade.

In the result released by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all the chairmanship positions in the 18 Local Government Areas that make up the state.

News About Nigeria gathered that the results were announced by returning officers from the 18 local government areas.

Chairman of EDSIEC, Justice James Oyomere (rtd) said the returning officers and their ad-hoc staff performed well in the conduct of the election.

However, the APC Edo State Chairman, David Imuse, described the election as a total scam and a charade because the EDSIEC brought insufficient ballot papers and no single result sheet to the different polling units.

He added that it was impossible to conduct a credible election when these essentials are lacking.

Also, a chieftain of the LP, Dr. Kingsley Okunday, who criticised the conduct of the election in a statement said the exercise was a sham and a rape of democracy, considering the importance of local government elections at the grassroots level.

He also accused the ruling PDP of intimidating and allegedly using dangerous weapons to deter LP members, while they manipulated results and also carted away voting materials in some areas.

Okunday who charged LP members not to take laws into their hands but to remain calm called on EDSIEC to review and cancel the election because the process was marred by electoral malpractices and irregularities.
