Nigerians have not stopped criticising politicians over the items they distributed as band-aids to lessen the impact of the elimination of gasoline subsidies, News About Nigeria reports.
Recall that in the heat of the worsening economic situation occasioned by the recent removal of fuel subsidy President Bola Tinubu-led government had rolled out palliative measures to cushion the effect of the recent removal of fuel.
To help the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) buy food to provide to the underprivileged in their states, the federal government has authorised N5 billion for each state and the FCT.
The 36 state governors received five trucks of rice apiece from the federal government.
The governors of each state are required to purchase fertiliser, 40,000 bags of corn, and 100,000 bags of rice.
Of the total funds, 52% were granted as grants and 48% were loaned to the state governments.
However, Nigerians have slammed lawmakers of Badagry West for distributing packaged garri as palliative materials.
Mr Odanz who registered his displeasure with Nigerian politicians said that they were in the habit of pocketing most of what is supposed to be distributed to the poor.
“Give N2 Billion to corrupt politicians to share with poor Nigerians across the states. Politician buys low-cost items like garri or indomie with N1 billion, packages them as their campaign souvenir and pockets the remaining N1 billion to flex Abuja girls. Tunubu the master strategist,” Mr Odanz wrote.
On his part, Christian C. asked the President Tinubu-led government to continue servicing fuel subsidies instead of dolling out the ridiculous items as palliatives.
“These people should better let FG continue servicing fuel subsidy instead of insulting Nigerians with such silly packages,” he wrote.
