Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who also served as the immediate past Emir of Kano, met with the Niger military government on Wednesday, as the Junta government continues to reject diplomatic moves by ECOWAS and other bodies to return the country to democratic rule.

News About Nigeria gathered that the former CBN governor met with Niger’s Junta administration in Niamy.

The meeting comes as the Junta administration continues to refuse ECOWAS, AU, and US-led dialogue. The meeting, however, comes as a surprise because the military junta has been steadfast in its refusal to engage in negotiations.

Abdourahmane Tiani, the commander of the Niger Republic’s presidential guard and self-proclaimed interim leader, met with Sanusi.

Issues discussed at the meeting, however, have not been made public.

The meeting comes as prominent Nigerians continue to insist that President Bola Tinubu-led ECOWAS consider diplomatic measures to return Niger to democratic rule.

However, Ajuri Ngelale spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu has revealed that his administration will explore diplomatic measures. he also disclosed that President Tinubu has also not ruled out military intervention.

Recall that President Tinubu had earlier written to the Nigerian Senate on its plans to invade Niger; a move that was negated by the Nigerian senate.

International relations experts have continued to warn that Nigeria will heavily feel the impact if ECOWAS goes ahead to apply military might against the Niger military Junta-led government.

Experts say that northern states that share borders with Niger will be heavily impacted if ECOWAS results in using war as a means to return the country to democratic rule.
