130 Standing Committees Approved by House of Reps, 24 More Created

The Speaker said that the Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of the 130 Standing Committees will be released on Thursday before the House leaves for its two-month break during a discussion with the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Günther.

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has given his approval for the creation of 130 Standing Committees, which will be released on Thursday.

According to News About Nigeria, the Speaker appointed 24 new Standing Committees in addition to the 130 that already existed.

Aviation Technology, Banking and Other Ancillary Institutions, Digital, and Electronic Banking: Basic Examination Bodies, Health Specialty Care Services, and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control are among the 24 newly established Standing Committees, according to the Nigerian Tribune.

Other committees include small and medium-sized enterprises, petroleum (midstream), Christian and Muslim pilgrimages, police institutions, shipping services, renewable energy, the National Rural Electrification Agency, science research institutions, science engineering, higher education, and federal polytechnics.

The Committees on Hydrological Services, Youth in Parliament, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Public Assets are among the other new Standing Committees that Abbas approved.

The Standing Committee on Aviation was divided into two sections: Aviation and Aviation Technology.

Banking and Currency, Banking Regulations, and Digital Electronic Banking were each given their committee inside the Committee on Banking and Currency.

He divided the Standing Committee on Basic Education and Services into two and modified the names of other Standing Committees.

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), petroleum (upstream), petroleum (downstream), ecological fund, rules and business, public petitions, ethics and privileges, agricultural colleges and institutions, aids, loans, and debt management; gas resources; navy; foreign affairs; governmental affairs; health institutions; industry; and inland waterways are among the other committees that were retained.

Additional standing committees include those for the Air Force, Army, Defense, Financial Crime, Environment, Capital Market & Institutions, Climate Change, Disabilities, Delegated Legislations, Telecommunications, Constituency Outreach, Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Civil Society and Development Partners, Housing & Habitat, Internal Security of the National Assembly, Insurance & Actuarial Matters, Legislative Compliance, Lake Chad, Land Transport, Justice, and Inter-Parliamentary Affairs.

Customs & Excise, Culture & Tourism, Diaspora, Judiciary, FCT Judiciary, Federal Character, Electoral Matters, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Area Councils & Ancillary Matters, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Federal Road Safety Commission, National Planning & Economic Development, Pension, Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring, North East Development Commission, Political Parties, Public Procurement, and Public Service Matters are among the additional standing committees that have been retained.
