The residence of the former vice president and 2023 presidential candidate home in Yola, allegedly became the target of a terrorist attack, as revealed by the Adamawa State Police Command, News About Nigeria reports.
This situation was made known on Monday by Reno Omokri, a former presidential assistant, taking to his official Twitter handle, he tweeted that suspected terrorists broke into Atiku’s home.
He said that the incident is too serious to be treated with levity, especially with the state of the nation, he urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to conduct a thorough investigation.
Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command, responded to the development in an interview with SaharaReporters by stating that two criminals had been arrested.
According to Nguroje, members of the command arrested two alleged terrorists and handed them over to the military for additional investigation.
According to the command spokeswoman, the suspects were handed up to the military by the police because their attempted crime was related to terrorism.
He said: “Yes, one Jibrilla Mohammed was arrested at the residence of the former vice president in Yola, and while interrogating him, we got to arrest his accomplice.
“During his interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
“He revealed a plot to bomb Waziri Atiku’s residence, along with faculties at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, as well as the Modibbo Adama Central Mosque.
“We have handed them over to the military because their attempted crime is terrorism in nature.”
Security has been tightened in the house of the former president to protect his life and properties.
