After the alleged brutalization of a citizen, two officers attached to the Rivers State police command have been arrested.

News About Nigeria reports that their arrest comes after a video of them assaulting a man identified simply as Iyke, in Oyibo Local Government Area made waves on social media.

A bystander filmed the moment the policemen were brutalising the young man over an undisclosed issue.

In the said video, the fellow that was recording the act confirmed that such occurrence is a daily happening by those law enforcement officers in Oyigbo.

Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, the State Commissioner of Police spoke against such action by the officers in a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko.

According to Emeka, the officers involved are currently on trial for their unprofessionalism.

This, according to him, would be a step to serve as a deterrent to other police officers.

With a promise that his identity would be protected, the police appealed Iyke to visit the Command Public Relations Department, to give his statement and aid the conclusion of the investigation.

According to the PPRO: “The Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, has condemned the police assault and brutality of a man in a video trending on social media.

“The policemen in the video have been identified and arrested. They are currently at the Command undergoing trial for their unprofessional act which will serve as a deterrent to other police personnel.

“The Commissioner of Police assures members of the public that the police operatives will be investigated in line with extant rules underlying the conduct of police personnel and appropriate sanctions meted accordingly. The command further assures the good people of Rivers State of its unalloyed commitment to promoting the rule of law.”
