The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the cut-off mark for the 2022/23 admissions into universities across Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, revealed this information during a presentation at the 2023 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions and Awards held in Abuja on Saturday.

As per the latest guidelines, a score of 140 and above in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be the minimum requirement for candidates seeking admission into universities.

However, it is important to note that this cut-off mark is not obligatory for institutions to follow.

For those aspiring to gain admission into polytechnics and colleges of education, the cut-off mark has been set at 100.

Similar to university admissions, this threshold serves as a minimum benchmark, and institutions have the discretion to set their own admission requirements.

The introduction of a standardized cut-off mark by JAMB aims to provide a guideline for tertiary institutions across the country.

It ensures a level playing field for candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

However, institutions retain the autonomy to set their own specific admission criteria within the parameters established by JAMB.

The JAMB Registrar emphasized that the cut-off marks are just the minimum requirement, and universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education are at liberty to set higher cut-off marks based on their individual admission policies and the competitive nature of their programs.

Therefore, candidates are advised to familiarize themselves with the admission criteria of their desired institutions and aim to achieve scores that align with the specific requirements.
