In a recent development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made known his choice for the next senate president of Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

According to Senator Ali Ndume, Tinubu has expressed his preference for Godswill Akpabio as the ideal candidate for this influential position.

Ndume revealed this information during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Tinubu has entrusted Ndume with the responsibility of spearheading the campaign for Akpabio’s Senate President aspirations.

Ndume conveyed his assurance that the President would remain steadfast in his stance concerning the governance of the 10th Senate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) previously designated four principal positions for the 10th National Assembly and assigned elected lawmakers to each role.

The zoning arrangement entails Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom) as the Senate President representing the South-South region, and Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano) as the Deputy Senate President from the North-West region.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives will be Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna) from the North-West, and the Deputy Speaker will be Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia) from the South East.

According to Ndume, who has an extensive 20-year tenure in the National Assembly, 75 out of the 109 elected Senators in the red chamber have already aligned themselves with Akpabio’s ambitions.

While acknowledging the strong competition from Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, who is also vying for the position of Senate President, Ndume emphasized that Akpabio’s camp possesses several advantages.

While Ndume maintains faith in Akpabio’s camp emerging victorious in the election, he acknowledges the possibility of surprises and last-minute changes of heart.

He acknowledged that people’s opinions can be subject to alteration.

However, he firmly believes that their candidate is superior in terms of political and intellectual capabilities.

The race for the Senate Presidency in Nigeria has undoubtedly intensified, with Senator Akpabio emerging as President Tinubu’s preferred choice.

As the campaign gains momentum, the support of the party, the President, and the majority of senators may serve as crucial factors that contribute to Akpabio’s potential success.

Nevertheless, in the world of politics, surprises are always a possibility, and the final outcome will only be revealed with time.
