Nigeria’s very own talented chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, known affectionately as Hilda Baci, has made history by shattering the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”, News About Nigeria reports.
In a remarkable display of skill and endurance, Hilda surpassed the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, held by Chef Lata Tondon from India.
The momentous feat commenced on Thursday at precisely 4 pm when Hilda fired up her stove, and she remains unwavering in her determination to cook for a staggering 96 hours, aiming to establish a groundbreaking record as the first person ever to dedicate such an immense amount of time to cooking.
Hilda’s exceptional achievement has garnered tremendous support from various quarters, including government officials, renowned personalities, religious leaders, and patriotic Nigerians.
Despite encountering heavy rainfall in the early hours of Monday morning in Lagos, her fellow countrymen rallied behind her without wavering.
Prior to Hilda’s groundbreaking feat, Chef Tondon, the previous record holder, conveyed her warm wishes to Hilda, displaying the camaraderie and respect that exists among culinary pioneers.
Furthermore, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Hilda’s home state, reached out to her on Sunday evening, expressing his admiration for her remarkable representation of the core principles of the Dakkada philosophy, which the state upholds.
Governor Emmanuel commended Hilda for her unyielding passion and determination to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
He remarked that Hilda’s remarkable accomplishment perfectly exemplified the spirit of Dakkada, highlighting the philosophy’s central tenets of daring to defy limits and conquering seemingly insurmountable challenges.
The governor further praised Hilda for showcasing not only her culinary expertise but also the rich and diverse cuisines that have earned national and international acclaim.
