In the wake of the recent comments made by former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on Nigeria’s leadership crisis and the absence of leaders like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has countered Sanusi’s views.

Sanusi, while speaking at the virtual launch of a book titled “Osinbajo Strides: Defining Moments of an Innovative Leader,” expressed concern about Nigeria’s future without leaders like Osinbajo.

He lamented how Nigeria would miss Osinbajo after the May 29 handover and expressed hope that he might still lead the country subsequently. News About Nigeria reports.

However, Igbokwe took to his Facebook page to counter Sanusi’s views. According to Igbokwe, the ruling party would have lost the February 25 presidential election to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, if Osinbajo had clinched the ticket.

He wrote, “Enemies of APC are talking. If Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had not been on the ballot, APC would have lost to Atiku’s PDP by 12 noon on that day.”

Igbokwe’s comments reflect the political realities on the ground and highlight the challenges that the APC faces as it prepares for the 2023 elections.

While Osinbajo represents a promising candidate, his candidacy must be backed by a robust political strategy that takes into account the complex dynamics of Nigerian politics.

The APC needs a candidate who can win the hearts and minds of Nigerians and steer the country toward a brighter future. The comments by Sanusi and Igbokwe represent divergent views that have characterized the Nigerian political space.

The country is at a critical juncture in its history, and the need for visionary leaders who can navigate the country through these troubled waters cannot be overemphasized.
