Ahmadu Fintiri, the incumbent governor of Adamawa State, has won his second term in office after emerging victorious in the gubernatorial election held on Saturday, April 16, 2023.

The Collation Officer of the State, Mele Lamido, announced Fintiri as the winner after he defeated his closest rival, Aishatu Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Checks by News About Nigeria showed that the election was keenly contested by several candidates from different political parties, but Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the clear winner with a total of 430,861 votes. Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, came second with 396,788 votes.

Other candidates from various political parties also contested, but they could not garner enough votes to make a significant impact.

The outcome of the election has generated mixed reactions from different quarters. Supporters of the PDP have taken to the streets to celebrate the victory, while supporters of the APC have expressed disappointment over the loss.

It is worthy to note that the election was not without its controversies. Aishatu Dahiru was earlier illegally announced as the winner by the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC.

However, the electoral body quickly rectified the error and conducted a transparent election that produced a credible winner.

Ahmadu Fintiri’s victory is a testament to the popularity of the PDP in Adamawa State, and it is expected that he will continue his developmental strides in the state.

His first term in office was characterized by massive infrastructural development, improved healthcare, and education, among other things.

It is hoped that his second term will be marked by even more significant achievements and progress for the people of Adamawa State.
