A 41-year-old man from Minnesota, Moses Gibson, has gone through a series of leg lengthening surgeries, spending over $170,000 (equivalent to N126 million) in an effort to increase his height and improve his chances of finding a girlfriend.
Gibson, who stood at a height of 5-foot-5 inches, struggled with confidence in the dating scene due to his height.
Gibson had tried various methods to increase his height before resorting to surgery.
News About Nigeria gathered that he took pills that falsely advertised they would help him grow and even consulted with a spiritual healer who suggested that he could grow taller by focusing on his height with his mind.
However, these methods did not yield the desired results.
After researching more about leg lengthening surgery, Gibson decided to save up for the procedure by working during the day as a software engineer and driving for Uber at night.
Over a three-year period, he successfully saved up over $75,000 for his first surgery, which took place in 2016 and added three inches to his height, leaving him at 5 feet 8 inches.
“After the first procedure, I was happy with it to some extent, but it was always in my mind that I wanted to do a second one to complete it. I’m a high achiever. I’ve got the money, and I can finish the journey,” he explained.
Encouraged by the results of his first surgery, Gibson saved up an additional $98,000 to undergo a second leg lengthening procedure in March of this year, with the hope of adding another two inches to his height.
The surgery involved doctors breaking his tibia and fibula bones and inserting magnetic, limb-lengthening nails to allow for new bone tissue growth.
Gibson is optimistic that the surgery will help him reach a height of at least 5 feet 11 inches, as he continues to use a height-lengthening device to gradually increase his height by millimeters.
He believes that the procedures have already helped him gain more confidence in talking to women, and he is currently in a relationship.
