Ortom Condoles With Monarch, IDPs Over Friday’s Attack

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has paid a condolence visit to the victims of Friday’s attack at an Internally Displaced Persons, IDP camp in July LGEA Primary School Mgban, in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Ortom and his delegation were received by the traditional ruler of Nyiev community, Chief Bernard Shawa who also lost two of his children in the attack.

The monarch thanked Governor Ortom for his sympathy and paying the community a condolence visit with his delegation over the horrendous incident.

Speaking on the attack, Ortom said it was said and unfortunate, whilst blaming various Fulani groups for opposing and violating the state’s anti-open grazing law which he felt would bring peace to the state.

He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to do something about the killings rather than sending condolence messages saying, “Condolence messages cannot be enough, the President must issue marching orders to security agencies to fish out these terrorist groups and bring them to justice.”

The Governor said “Anything that needs to be done must be done because our people have suffered for too long. How can you explain that people you chased from their ancestral homes decided to take refuge in a camp in a primary school and you did this to them? How do you explain the deaths and pains, this is not right. The people doing this must be punished according to the laws of the land.

He also chided the opposition for blaming him over the incessant attacks and killings

“Castigating and vilifying me and putting the blame on me when our people are being killed by terrorists is not right.”

Ortom noted that the government would have an emergency meeting with the State Security Council over the recent attacks.
